Visionary leadership driving sustainable transformation across Africa and beyond
Elizabeth Wangeci Chege is a distinguished sustainability leader and board-level strategist with over 25 years of transformative impact delivering climate-smart solutions across five continents. As Founding Director of Main Signal and Energy Efficiency & Cooling Officer at Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), she bridges public and private sectors to influence global and African government policies on sustainable cooling, energy efficiency, and resilient infrastructure.
She serves as Board Secretary of the World Green Building Council—the first Kenyan and the first woman to hold a continental leadership position—where she brings proven expertise in corporate governance, ESG integration, and strategic policy formulation. Her leadership has pioneered green building adoption across Africa, opened new investment channels in sustainable infrastructure, and shaped climate policy at the highest levels, including with the African Union Commission and G20 Presidency.
As a pioneering force in sustainable development, she co-founded the Kenya Green Building Society and championed the establishment of green building councils across African nations, directly influencing sustainable infrastructure development for more than 700 million people. She also spearheaded the collaborative development and launch of the Africa Manifesto for Sustainable Cities and the Built Environment, establishing the strategic framework now guiding policy decisions and investments continent-wide.
